I was in my last semester of nursing school when my life completely changed.
I was diagnosed with a four centimeter brain tumor called an acoustic neuroma, and three weeks later, I had surgery to remove it. The tumor was sitting directly on my facial nerve, and because of the trauma it caused, I woke up with permanent hearing loss in my left ear and left sided facial paralysis. Over the years, the paralysis has improved, but it's still something I live with every day.
That experience taught me something that nursing school never could. For the first time, I experienced healthcare from the other side, not as the person providing it, but as the person needing it. Going through surgery, recovery, and everything that came after forced me to truly understand what it means to take care of yourself. It didn't just change my perspective on health. It ignited a passion in me that I carried into everything that came after.
When I started working as a nurse, all of the healing I had done felt impossible to hold onto. All of the symptoms I had worked so hard to recover from came flooding back. The exhaustion, the headaches, the tension I carried in my body. I was running on twelve hour shifts, barely drinking water, pouring everything I had into my patients. And when I looked around, every healthcare professional I knew was doing the exact same thing.
We dedicate our lives to caring for others, and yet there is no system in place to help us take care of ourselves. No real conversation about burnout. No roadmap for how to balance the emotional and physical demands of this work with actually showing up for our own health. We are just expected to keep going.
So I built Revvi.
Revvi's Mission
Revvi is a wellness membership built specifically for healthcare professionals. Our mission is to connect you with high quality wellness spaces, fitness studios, acupuncture, sauna, cold plunge, recovery services, and more, at preferred partner rates, so that on your day off, you can finally prioritize yourself.
But Revvi is bigger than a membership. The vision is to build a full ecosystem of care for healthcare professionals, one where burnout isn't the norm, where taking care of yourself is built into the culture, and where the people who spend their days caring for others finally have a system that cares for them too.
Because when we show up for ourselves, we show up so much better for our patients.
This is just the beginning. Thank you for being here from the start.
With gratitude,
Gabriella
